OUR STORY

Our story begins in May of 2015 when our local Peace Corps Volunteer and founder, Bonnie, was sewing a blanket in her front yard.  We wanted to learn those skills from her and after our request and a few follow-up meetings, we began classes in June 2015.  After months of instruction we worked together as a group to raise money in order to sew and sell our first product, the Fula Tote.  From there our group has blossomed into a sisterhood and a business.   Our hearts are rooted in a hope for our children to succeed and you will see that most of our goals are to pay for our children’s school fees.

We dream of a life where we can afford to send all of our children to college and earn an income substantial enough that we can be independent.

WHAT WE DO

We work to empower women and their families through training if four areas:

FINANCIAL PLANNING

We center our organization on giving women the choice of how they want to use their income.  They are trained to set goals and accomplish them through planning and saving.

BUSINESS

We teach basic economic and business planning in order for Kagunda Women to grow as an organization and for the women to have the knowledge to start their own ventures.

LEADERSHIP

Each woman has a role and undergoes frequent training to develop the leadership skills she will need within the organization and within her community.

SEWING AND SKILLS TRAINING

We learn new products to sew and craft on a bi-monthly basis.
